How it works

To visit The Newt in Somerset, visitors are required to purchase a Membership or book a stay at their luxurious hotel. As a member of The Newt, you'll have unlimited visits to the gardens, as well as discounted entry to other stunning parks and gardens in the UK.

Beezantium

Beezantium explores the life of bees and how they're connected to nature. Marvel at the collection of wild bee colonies and learn all about the bees' lifecycle, their habitat, and the captivating history of beekeeping.

The Story of Gardening

Expect an immersive experience like no other when you step into "The Story of Gardening" museum. Set against the Woodland, see, hear, touch and smell different gardens around the world, spanning 2000 years of garden history. From ancient courtyards in Japan to modern-day gardens built in megacities today, get ready to experience gardening in a delightfully unexpected way.

Woodland

The ancient woodland around The Newt is home to a 300-year-old Druid Tree, wild birds, and more. The leaves and berries picked from the woodlands is also used at the restaurants. Take a stroll amongst these trees and connect with nature once again.

Designed by Henry Hobhouse II as a walled kitchen garden, the Parabola today features a Baroque-style maze made up of a collection of apple trees. Check out their unique collection of apple trees and the intricate shapes they've formed to make up the maze.

Summer Events

Blossom Pressing & Mounting
11 or 25 May, 10am-2pm
This workshop offers the opportunity to create something unique and bring a little magic from The Newt back home.
Led by gardener and Heritage Manager, Maiko Ishida, you'll pick flowers from the flower garden, learn all about flower pressing and arrangement, and bring home a ready-to-mount work of art.
The workshop includes the flower press, pressings and ready-to-frame flowers, and a selection of papers to continue pressing flowers at home.
Gardener & Chef
23 June, 21 July, 18 August, 15 September, 10am-2pm
The gardeners and chefs at The Newt work closely together to plan the year’s seasonal harvests. Start the day by meeting the Head of Edible Gardens, Rose Szarowicz and Estate Head Chef, Alan Stewart, before heading off the the gardens to pick the seasonal, fresh ingredients for lunch. Under the expert guidance of Rose and Alan, you'll cook over an open fire and indulge in a lovely meal.
Dawn/ Sunset Walks
Running throughout the season, join the team for a dawn or sunset walk and learn about the history of English gardens, the Roman Villas, or the bees on the estate, and experience truly tranquil moments at The Newt. Every walk ends with a small meal prepared at the Garden Cafe.
