Bead Plant Overview

Nertera granadensis is a perennial species in the Rubiaceae family. It produces vibrant orange berry fruits from small green-white flowers. These have low-level toxicity, they are harmful to consume and may cause mild stomach upset. These start to form in the spring, often opening during the summer, its recommended to increase watering when flowers appear, keeping the soil moist. Its a popular houseplant, grown mainly for the ornamental berries, however it's not recommended for the new gardener as it is not the easiest to keep happy. It likes a bright spot in semi-shade but can struggle in full, direct sunlight. It needs well-draining, porous soil and a cool temperature between 8-18 degrees Celcius.
