Azure Grape Hyacinth Overview

Muscari azureum is a spring-flowering deciduous bulbous perennial that produces small bell-shaped pale-blue flowers that each have a darker blue central stripe. This compact plant typically only grows to 10cm in height and has earned a Royal Horticultural Society Award of Garden Merit. Also known as Azure Grape Hyacinth, this plant produces narrow, channelled green leaves and if the foliage is allowed to die back naturally will form dense clumps. It is occasionally listed with the synonym names of Hyacinthus azureus or Hyacinthella azurea. They are frost hardy and prefer cool areas. with rich, well-drained soil, forming dense clumps. Plant the bulb in autumn at a depth of 12cm (5") in a sunny or partial-shaded position, but protect from the hot sun in warm areas.
