Smoke Tree 'Grace' Overview

Cotinus 'Grace' is a deciduous bushy large shrub or small tree that produces attractive, rounded purple foliage that can reach 10cm in length. In autumn, they turn a fiery-red colour before falling. In spring, feathery plumes of pink flowers are produced that can develop into pink fruit in autumn. Also known as Smoke Tree 'Grace' or Smoke Bush, this plant was once listed as Cotinus × dummeri 'Grace' and can occasionally still be found under the name 'Grace Drummer'. This vigorous plant will tolerate most growing conditions, but for the best, leaf colour grow in full sun. You can encourage larger leaves by cutting stems back hard in early spring. If, however, you want the hazy flowering summer plumes that have led to the common name 'Smoke Bush', limit pruning to only removing dead, diseased or damaged stems. Apply a feed in spring and mulch around the base - without touching the trunk.
