Redbud 'Forest Pansy' Overview

Cercis canadensis 'Forest Pansy' can be a large shrub or a small, multi-stemmed tree. Commonly known as Redbud 'Forest Pansy' or Forest Pansy Redbud, this plant is considered the same as Cercis canadensis 'Purple Leaf'. This cultivar from the Fabaceae family produces stunning 12cm wide heart-shaped leaves in a deep red-purple colour that develops through to green in the summer, then red, purple, bronze and orange shades in the autumn. It is grown for both the foliage and the flowers. Forest Pansy Redbud is hardy and grows best in full sun. Attractive pea-like, pink flowers are borne in clusters on bare stems early in spring before the leaves emerge.
