Golden Trumpet Overview

Originating in the jungles of Brazil, Allamanda, widely known as Golden Trumpet is propagated from stem cuttings. As a vine and a shrub, it flourishes in warm and moist climates. Growing thickly, it gets covered in yellow bell-shaped flowers, making it a lovely option for a hedge screen. Be cautious when growing or handling Allamanda, as they secrete a white sap when damaged, which can be harmful. This vigorous tropical vine is a popular conservatory plant, producing clusters of striking yellow flowers contrasting with shiny dark green leaves.

Common problems with Golden Trumpet

Allamanda may be bothered by Spider Mites and Whiteflies. Both can cause leaf discolouration and loss of vigour.

How to harvest Golden Trumpet

As a prolific flowering vine and shrub, the flowers can be picked throughout spring and summer, but they do not last long.

How to propagate Golden Trumpet

Plant cuttings in Spring or Summer. Dig a 50 mm hole and insert a stem cutting which should have 2 or more buds on it in the hole and at least two buds for new leaves above soil level.
