Apple Mint Overview
Mentha suaveolens commonly known as Apple mint is a herbaceous, upright perennial that is well known for its sweet and mild minty aroma from the essential oils found in its oval-shaped leaves. It thrives in damp and wet conditions and is a must have if you are fond of other mint varieties. It can become invasive if not controlled like most mints - plant in a pot or area you can keep under control!

How to harvest Apple Mint
Fresh Apple mint leaves can be harvested as needed as soon as the plant reaches 10cm in height. To dry, cut stalks just before blooming.
How to propagate Apple Mint
Seed
Sow in Spring, depth 6mm; 15 cm apart directly in the ground. Most mints have fairly aggressive roots, so its best to grow them in containers buried in the soil.
Cuttings
Take 5 to 10 cm stem cuttings and place them in moist and well-draining soil in semi-sun. It should root in under two weeks. Transplant into a larger pot a few weeks after the cuttings have rooted.
Division
Mentha plants are prone to hybridization, therefore, division is a good method if you want to preserve a particular aroma.
