Swamp cypress Overview
Small genus with just 2 deciduous or semi-evergreen, hardy, coniferous trees originating from swampy forests or the edges of rivers in the Southeastern USA to Guatemala. They make good specimen trees, growing to around 30-46m, producing needle-like foliage. They are also highly flood-tolerant and can produce aerial roots called pneumatophores.
How to propagate Swamp cypress
Seed
Seed sown in autumn or spring (but forms selected for leaf colour do not come true).
Cuttings
Evergreen current growth cuttings in autumn to spring. Deciduous softwood cuttings in summer.
