Leonotis is small genus containing around 9 species of annual or perennial, and deciduous or evergreen shrubs in the mint family, Lamiaceae. They originate from Africa and Southern India where they inhabit tropical regions. These plants have aromatic leaves and tubular flowers in a series of whorls at the end of the branches. The species Leonotis leonurus is cultivated for its attractive orange flowers and drought-tolerance.
