    Dawn Redwoods Overview

Metasequoia is a small genus containing just 1 deciduous conifer tree species from the Cupressaceae family. This confier is native to China and known commonly by the name Dawn Redwood. It produces soft, needle-shaped leaves arranged in two flat ranks along the shoot. They are often pale in colour when young, turning green with age. This plant displays attractive autumn colouration, with the foliage turning shades of brown-pink and yellow. Flowers are non-showy and the cones are green upon emergence, developing to a brown shade with age.
