Peperomia 'Luna Red' Overview
Peperomia caperata 'Luna Red' is an attractive evergreen perennial cultivar in the Piperaceae family. It is frequently grown as a houseplant for its succulent, rounded, heart-shaped leaves and unusual texture. The leaves are purple-red in colour, measuring around 3-4cm long, with prominent, sunken veins. It is a relatively slow-growing but highly attractive cultivar, typically reaching 20cm in height. Originally from Brazil, Peperomia caperata rarely flower in cultivation. Peperomia caperata 'Luna Red' are compact and easy to grow. They like a warm position in bright indirect sunlight and loose, well-draining soil - if using potting compost, add grit, perlite or vermiculite. Let the soil completely dry out between waterings and feed with a balanced fertiliser every month during spring and summer. Ideally, mist the leaves every day or two, to maintain humidity - these plants come from humid tropical jungles! Repot every 2 or 3 years - not more, as Peperomias like being moderately pot-bound. Remove dead leaves and those growing close around the edge of the pot. Commonly known by the names Radiator Plant 'Luna Red' or Peperomia 'Luna Red', this cultivar has earned a Royal Horticultural Society Award of Garden Merit.
