Beech Overview
Fagus is a genus of large deciduous trees from the Fagaceae family. They are native to Europe, Asia and North America where they grow in temperate regions. Commonly known as Beech, the genus Fagus contains 11 species which have smooth grey bark, large oval leaves and sharply three-angled nuts inside spiny husks. Cultivated plants are grown for their autumn colour and a number of cultivars with diverse growth habits and leaf colour are available.
