Actinidia Overview
Actinidia is a genus containing around 55 deciduous, climbing species in the Actinidiaceae family. They are mostly woody-stemmed perennial shrubs and vines Commonly grown for their attractive, sometime variegated, oval-shaped leaves, cup-shaped, white, 5-petalled, sometimes scented flowers and their edible fruits. Most plants in this genus are termed dioecious, as they produce male and female flowers on individual plants. Cultivars such as Actinidia arguta 'Issai' have been developed to self-fertilise and produce fruits without the need for multiple plants.
