Oenanthe is a genus of 11 accepted species of flowering plants in the Apiaceae family. They are found mostly in damp meadows, marshes or standing water and may be known by the name Dropwort. Several species are extremely poisonous, notably Oenanthe crocata which inhabits damp, marshy ground in the UK and resembles a cross between celery and carrots. Other species, however, are cultivated as edible crops in some Asian countries as well as Italy where new growth is harvested in spring and eaten as a vegetable.
