Dancing Plant Overview
Codariocalyx motorius is an interesting shrub species in the legume family, Fabaceae. Originating from tropical and subtropical Asia. This plant was well known by the previous name Desmodium gyrans, it is commonly known by a few names including Dancing Plant, Telegraph Plant and Semaphore Plant. It produces small purple, pea-like flowers. It is notable for its rapid leaf movement, this is an adaptation allowing the plant to follow the sunlight and maximise exposure to its leaves. It has been used ornamentally in gardens for the moving foliage.
