Sisal Overview

This evergreen, rosette-forming perennial grows up to 90cms in height. The leaves are rigid and fleshy, taper to sharp spikes and can reach a length of 1.8 metres. After between four and eight years of growth, a 6 meter stem grows out from the rosette and clusters of yellow flowers form. The plant dies after flowering.

Other uses of Sisal

Grown mainly for its fibres which are obtained from the leaves and used to make hats, rugs, brushes, dartboards, paper, cloth and ropes.
