    Cape cowslip Overview

    Lachenalia is a genus of bulbous perennials in the Asparagaceae family native to Namibia and South Africa containing around 135 species. They have strap-shaped leaves and erect stems carrying spikes of tubular flowers from Autumn through Winter to Spring with a Summer dormancy period. Some species are referred to as the Cape cowslip and they are popular garden plants for rockeries in mild areas and as glasshouse specimens in colder regions.
