Cut Leaf Philodendron Overview

Thaumatophyllum bipinnatifidum is an impressive evergreen shrub species in the aroid family, Araceae. It is commonly known by the names Horsehead Philodendron, Fiddle-Leaf Philodendron and Cut Leaf Philodendron, amongst others. This plant produces large, showy leaves on long stems up to a metre in length. The leaves are ornate and pinnately divided into many-lobed structures. Flowers are cream-purple in colour, and measure approximately 30cm long, not often appearing in cultivation. This species has recently been reclassified from Philodendron and moved to the new genus, Thaumatophyllum. It was historically well known by the name Philodendron selloum and is sometimes still sold under this name and the also-previous name Philodendron bipinnatifidum. The sap can be an irritant to skin and ingestion can cause stomach upset.
