Begonia socotrana originates from the isolated island of Socotrana close to Yemen. It is one of the parents of winter-flowering hybrids B. x Hiemalis and B. x Cheimantha. Its natural habitats are forests, dry shrubland and rocky areas in subtropical or tropical climates.
