Agapanthus 'Hanneke' Overview
Agapanthus 'Hanneke' is an evergreen clump-forming plant that produces charming violet-blue star-shaped flowers that form a rounded head standing 80cm tall above glossy-green strappy leaves. African Lily 'Hanneke' gives a lovely summer display, looking especially stunning as part of a Mediterranean or mixed planting scheme. In areas where temperatures drop below -5C, it will happily grow in large containers that can be moved undercover during the winter months. Like the fairy tale character Goldilocks, Agapanthus like their growing space to be just so! Contrary to popular wisdom, Agapanthus do not like to be overcrowded in their pots; however they also take a while to establish if planted up into too large spaces. As a rule of thumb, pot on every two years using a gritty multipurpose mix. This cultivar is part of the Royal Horticultural Society “Plants for Pollinators” initiative to showcase plants which support pollinator populations by providing ample amounts of nectar and/ or pollen. A great choice for encouraging pollinating insect wildlife into your garden!
