Barbed-Wire Plant Overview

Native to South Africa, this stumpy succulent has thick, fleshy stems that are often covered with a grey-brown, peeling bark. Leaves are linear or cylidrical, with a soft, downy touch. Yellow-green flowers are produced in winter, after which they persist as weak, silvery thorns surrounding the plant. The common name is derived from this appearance!
