Barley Overview
A genus of annual or perennial grasses in the Poaceae family originating from temperate zones of Eurasia, Africa and the Americas. There are 43 accepted species in this genus that includes the commercially-important cereal crop, H. vulgare, also known as barley. Some species are also grown as ornamental grasses for their dense tufts of grass-like leaves and arching spikes of silky-bristled flowers.
