Peperomia Overview
Peperomia is a genus containing evergreen perennial plants which are frequently grown as houseplants due to their ability to adapt to a range of atmospheres. There are over 1000 species (mostly from S. America, a few from Africa) in the genus, which is closely related to black pepper. Their succulent heart-shaped leaves are relatively slow-growing but are highly attractive, as are their slender spikes bearing small greenish-white flowers. Liberty Hyde Bailey, known as the 'Father of American Horticulture', is associated with giving Peperomia the common name of Radiator Plant.
Common problems with Peperomia
Fungal and bacterial problems include Anthracnose, Myrothecium Leaf Spot, Pythium Root Rot, Rhizoctonia Aerial Blight and Southern Blight. They're also susceptible to Aphids, Mealybugs, Scale Insects, Thrips, Fungus Gnats and Mites.
