Yellow Helmet Flower Overview
Scutellaria orientalis is a rhizomatous perennial species of flowering plant in the mint family, Lamiaceae. It is known commonly as yellow-flowered skullcap or yellow helmet flower. Foliage is oppositely arranged and the flowers are yellow and 2-lipped. Leaves are strongly toothed along their edges, with reticulate venation. They are traditionally used as medicinal plants and are cultivated in gardens for their upright sprays of hooded, tubular flowers. These measure approximately 3cm in length and are borne in summer.
