Sacred Bamboo 'Obsessed' Overview
Nandina domestica 'Obsessed' is an evergreen shrub with a compact, upright, bamboo-like growth habit. Known by the common name Sacred, or Heavenly, Bamboo 'Obsessed', this cultivar has bright red lance-shaped leaflets when young, that mature to dark green. The whole plant flushes to a bright bronze-red as temperatures fall in the autumn and winter, to create an eye-catching showstopper! Clusters of small white flowers appear in summer. It likes a sheltered spot in full sun and tolerates most soils as long as they are moist and well-drained. It can be lightly pruned in spring or after flowering, to maintain shape. Lovely as a single specimen in borders, this compact, low maintenance plant is also good for growing in rock gardens, containers, and as low hedging or screening. Originally from Japan, India and China, Nandina Domestica can also be used to good effect in Japanese gardens, and 'Obsessed' is a great cultivar to include.
Common problems with Sacred Bamboo 'Obsessed'
Generally free of pests but may be susceptible to viral infection causing narrow, distorted leaflets.
