Rock Rose Overview

Helianthemum is a genus of spreading or bushy evergreen shrubs (and a few herbs) in the Cistaceae family native to parts of the Northern Hemisphere with a centre of diversity in the Mediterranean. There are 73 accepted species in this genus characterised by their papery, saucer-shaped flowers in Spring and Summer. Commonly known as Rock Roses, they are popular rock garden plants in cultivation and there are numerous cultivars and hybrids available.
