About the garden

This 16ha nature reserve on the outskirts of Houghton is set against lovely koppies with well-developed indigenous gardens. Paths ramble across the hillsides with views of the city from various sides, mixing urban life with local vegetation.

The Wilds provides a pristine natural environment, appropriate for small corporate events. It is a lovely space for weddings and other types of photography. With running waterfalls and fountains, it provides a gentle respite from the nearby inner-city suburbs. At the peak of The Wilds is a sundial that marks a wonderful city skyline view.

Even in winter the park is evergreen, with wild red aloes to provide colour against grey skies. Given its stature as a nature reserve, events at The Wilds are limited to ensure that the natural flora and fauna are protected.

The wilds is lovely. The only thing was the parking was a bit small. There apparently is other parking but it came with a bit of a walk. The Park itself is awesome. Well maintained. Clean. You can walk up the stairs to get an awesome view. It's dog friendly (please take poop bags). I'll definitely go back.

Great Park, they have done a massive clean up, and the park is safe on weekends during day light hours. It is definitely worth exploring both side of the bridge. They've got great picnic areas, lovely benches under tress, and amazing artwork to find. Head up to the top to find the sun dial for an amazing view.

A lovely park to walk in. Fairly well maintained under the circumstances prevailing in the city of Johannesburg. Thank goodness for the people who care about preserving The Wilds. If you have never been there or have last visited the park a number of years ago, it is worth a visit. We felt safe although we only walked the western part of The Wilds, because the eastern part is apparently not that safe to walk alone or as a pair. It is recommended that one only walks the eastern section in a group.

Absolutely amazing nature reserve. Very beautiful and scenic also well kept. The ponds and waterfalls where dry when we went but still very nice walk to the top and back down. Definitely will be going back.

Beautiful gem in the middle of the city! Guards were friendly and helpful. Paths were reasonably marked out with a good map at the beginning. We explored the west side which is small and can be done in an hour comfortably. Most of it is under a tree canopy so a good walk on a warm day. Lovely lawns and benches along the way, should you to picnic. All in all a fun way to spend a morning :)
