About the garden

This 16ha nature reserve on the outskirts of Houghton is set against lovely koppies with well-developed indigenous gardens. Paths ramble across the hillsides with views of the city from various sides, mixing urban life with local vegetation.

The Wilds provides a pristine natural environment, appropriate for small corporate events. It is a lovely space for weddings and other types of photography. With running waterfalls and fountains, it provides a gentle respite from the nearby inner-city suburbs. At the peak of The Wilds is a sundial that marks a wonderful city skyline view.

Even in winter the park is evergreen, with wild red aloes to provide colour against grey skies. Given its stature as a nature reserve, events at The Wilds are limited to ensure that the natural flora and fauna are protected.

A very beautiful place, free entrance. We walked the West side and enjoyed that part of the park. We went over to the East side but we haven't gone too far into the East side when we warned by someone we met on the way to be careful and keep our phones in safe places. We were walking with kids, the youngest being 3 we thought it would be too risky to continue with the walk when we got such warnings. We then went back, otherwise we had a great time walking the West side.

The Wilds is a very nice quiet nature reserve with a beautiful view to the city of Johannesburg. It's typical not crowded hence if you want a nice place to visit with your significant other (maybe for a picnic), this is definitely a good place to consider despite it being free to enter. I have been there twice recently and I'd say its very safe too.

Was disappointing to see no water in the ponds. Was nice and relaxing otherwise but parking lot is too small and parking is a problem.

Lovely Nature Reserve and park for a hike and walk. Also a great place to bring the dogs for an early morning walk. There is also yoga on a Sunday morning in the giraffe park. All in all, a beautiful escape within the City

Tucked away amongst the Houghton hustle and bustle is the rare beauty of a park. Well kept grounds with some lovely sunsets and other features, it’s a must walk. For those moments where you need to escape the streets but can’t wait till the weekend, it’s a little piece of heaven Lots to see, special treats and things to see and do
