About the garden

Go on an alpine adventure in this beautiful late Regency landscape. Next door to the famous Shuttleworth aerodrome, the 10-acre Swiss Garden is a fantastic example of the Swiss picturesque style.

Originally created in the 1820s by Lord Ongley, the garden was bought and its features carefully preserved by the Shuttleworth family. It’s a fairytale garden with ponds and lawns, peacocks, sculptures and 13 listed follies with eccentric names. A relaxing space at any time of year, Swiss Garden is particularly colourful in spring, with daffodils, rhododendrons and wild alpine flowers.

After you’ve explored the pleasure gardens, tick off the sculptures on the Sculpture Trail or find a bit of peace and quiet in the nearby woodland. Don’t miss the Runway Cafe, which is open for drinks, cakes and homemade sandwiches.

We visited here to take advantage of the 30 days entrance that our ticket gave us as we'd visited the Shuttleworth Collection the day before so it was only fair for my wife to see the gardens! These really are magnificent and it's a shame they are overshadowed by the aircraft as they should be a destination in their own right. We followed the map and visited each of the areas marked, enjoying the views and the humidity on the grotto! We were in no hurry and probably spent a couple of hours wandering through the grounds before ending up, again, in the cafe. Another wonderful visit to the site and the 30 day ticket is a great way to see the attractions without feeling too rushed or overloaded. Maybe next time we'll get to see the house too!

Went on a rainy November day and the garden was very well kept and a nice walk. Didn't get round the whole of the garden as we were getting a bit wet, but lots of nice small outbuildings. And ponds. Decent kids playground as well with lots of different equipment. Can imagine it looks really nice in the spring summer.

On 6th August 2022 my Husband and i got married in the fernery at Swiss Gardens ,it was magical. The weather was sunny with blue sky . We were greeted by Georgia who made us feel relaxed even though i was very nervous. She had it all under control. We both cried our eyes out as it was such a special intimate moment. We had our own photos taken around the beautiful gardens it was perfect. We had the best day ever and would like to thank Georgia and her team for making our wedding day so lovely with many happy memories. All our friends and family said they had a great time and really enjoyed the day . We will be back to visit again on our Anniversary .

On the 13th April my wife and I got married in the Swiss cottage inside the Swiss gardens here at Shuttleworth. It was the most perfect day, from the time we arrived and were greeted by Georgia who had everything under control, to her team after the ceremony with the bar and canapes it was perfect. The Swiss Cottage in the middle of the gardens was a perfect setting for our hand fasting ceremony, it was also very intimate with family and close friends. We had our photos taken around the gardens and even the peacocks came by and said hello. We will definitely be back once a year to remember this special day, I can not recommended this place enough, it was just perfect.
