About the garden

The Arderne Gardens is a South African Provincial Heritage Site as designated by the National Monument placard near the entrance. Our 5 hectares containing more than 400 trees are directly managed by the City of Cape Town.

The garden, thanks to the extraordinary interest and commitment of its founders, also has one of the most diverse and valuable collections of exotic trees in all of South Africa. It now officially includes one of the largest trees in South Africa, the vast Moreton Bay Fig (or Wedding Tree, as it is commonly called) and quite possibly the largest Aleppo Pine in the world. These trees, along with four others, were proudly designated Champion Trees in 2008.

Very clean and peaceful park to visit. No entrance fee. The bathrooms are very clean and have partitioned toilet roll paper laid out for usage. Different spots to choose from and some benches or cement park chairs available. Although it is very close to a busy road once you're in the park the city noise is not very audible, depending on where you sit. The trees are magnificent and some have a protective wire over the bottom.

Hidden Gem in Cape Town! Quiet, tranquil beautiful gardens. Full of trees I've never seen before. Perfect for a quick relaxing walk, a nice lie down on the lawn or picnic. Dog friendly and well kept gardens. Very impressed! Visited late October and the gardens were lush and green.

Peaceful, gorgeous old trees to relax under. Best kept secret hideaway in the midst of city life! Visit and leave refreshed.

It's a lovely place. Good to bring family & friends. It's very popular with weddings for taking photos. It's dirty but , needs cleaning where necessary.

Its a beautiful garden. Perfect for a picnic or a walk. You can park on the street outside, it isn’t usually a hassle.
