About the garden

In the heart of St Andrews, home to a relaxing atmosphere and roughly 8,000 species of plants from across the globe, is this family-friendly Botanic Garden that adopts a unique approach to conservation and urban ecology.

Within the 18-acre site, you will find a pleasing mix of traditional and innovative gardens. View the spectacular display of Alpines in the Rock Garden, nurture your wellbeing with a wander through woodland and experience the popular Rhododendron Glade. Visitors will be delighted to discover the Chile specialist border featuring native flora accompanied by herbaceous perennials and to journey through the must-see new Tangled Bank made up of meadows, glades, sand dunes and urban ecology laboratories. Plus, you might be lucky enough to spot red squirrels scampering about. After all that exploring, rest in one of the Garden’s idyllic picnic spots while the kids enjoy the natural play area.

Nice and quiet, plenty plants and trees everywhere. You have to watch your steps every time. There was a some building work going when I visited. Very good adventure for the kids, keep them busy.

Lovely peaceful garden, which does lots of conservation, run by volunteers and funded by a charity, small entrance fee of £6,,,,, small shop and takeaway but there's lots of places to sit , indoor or out.

We attended on a freebie day. Wasn't too sure if the kids would like it, but they enjoyed themselves. Only thing they didn't like was how hot they were by the end if the afternoon, but obviously that's more the wweathers fault 😅

Absolutely beautiful park and arboretum not far from the city center. Everything is well maintained and the landscaping is the perfect balance between nature and rustic architecture. I really enjoyed this place. :) I was surprised by some of the plants I could see there.

Pretty enough, but somewhat small. I think we came at the wrong time of year as many of the plants are not starting to bloom. The main issue is they seem to be closing down the greenhouse and sending the plants elsewhere. This feels like a waste as for many people like me, the greenhouse is the best part! Staff were friendly and helpful and they took good covid precautions, I would just like there to be more if they are removing the greenhouse.
