Had a great day out. Castle and grounds so well looked after. Tea room meal did not come up to a high standard that we expect from National Trust. However, after a quiet word with the manager our money was refunded in a most professional way. (Menu could be improved). We will return. Keith Rudyard

What a fabulous place. Huge ornate grounds that captivate the horticulturalist in us all. As well as a wonderful well presented stately home that is the castle itself. Well worth a day trip by yourself or with the children. The food tent was well placed and stocked. And the walk down to the water wheel was an adventure in itself.

Love this place. Great gardens and walk to the watermill. Lovely house with well presented rooms. Excellent views from the rooms. Only downside is that the village is not what it once was, all feels a bit shabby now. Needs a two tidy up. But the village is nothing to do with the castle.

This is the second time we have visited and enjoyed our time. The gardens are beautiful and the watermill is interesting to watch. The house itself is full of detail and history. But you have steep grounds due to location but well worth all the effort. Highly recommend a visit.

Beautiful gardens, well planted on a very steep plot, surrounding the castle. Castle is well worth a visit inside (the great views, 'modern' kitchen & leather room are highlights) and the village is lovely too. Quite a steep walk from the carpark up to the castle, they helpfully provide a courtesy electric van for those with mobility problems, with wheelchair lift.
