About the garden

The garden has been restored to the half-wild state that Wordsworth created from local plants and materials. It was a place of peace and inspiration for Wordsworth, who would often compose poetry outdoors.

Atmospheric and beautiful cottage and gardens. Extremely friendly and helpful staff. Informative and imaginative museum, nice cafe and good shop. The ticket lasts for 12 months too, so you can come back!

Absolutely fantastic experience. The staff were enthusiastic and so friendly, you can see they enjoy the subject matter and go the extra mile. We had the tour and looked around all the fantastic exhibits in the new visitor centre. Lovely coffee shop, but takes a while for a coffee. We will be back in the summer to see "Dove Cottage" rear garden, in full bloom.

World-class visitor centre we were told by the friendly staff had just opened. Developed very sympathetically to the area and history but with a fresh and modern finish. The staging of Dove Cottage was aesthetically delightful. Really a great ode to this great writer.

Stunning place with excellent staff who really welcome you in and make you feel like you belong there. I came in with little knowledge of Wordsworth and this place has lit a fire in me that has made me want to know more. They do a great job of showing how his works came from this place and I’d really recommend the Garden-Orchard tour which sets you right into the landscape the poems come from.
