Myself and my family just adore Derreen Garden and Cafe. My parents live close by and we visit a couple of times a month. The grounds are stunning, so many beautifully maintained tracks that weave around, taking you to the waterfront and deep into the forest. There are so many different type of trees and interesting vegetation including the otherworldly tree ferns. There are lots of fairies in the woods too, and you can spot their houses all around! The cafe is wonderful, great coffee and generous home baked cakes and savoury foods. The service is so friendly and swift and it's reasonably priced too. And you can buy plants! This is a gorgeous hidden gem for coffee and nature immersion.

Superb! What a place of tranquility and beauty. The sea was like a millpond when we went on a wintery morning in December. We had the place to ourselves which was a surprise as it is so special, with amazing walks along the coastline and also fairy-tale walks in the woods where the tree ferns make you feel like you are in a pre-historic landscape. There are walks for all difficulties so you can meander along the waters edge stopping to sit on benches and admire the view or you can trek into the forest and onto the hills. It was a wonder morning of really varied walks and secret coves - look at the photos.

We were looking forward to visiting the gardens as they sound amazing. Unfortunately the gravel paths proved impassable for either my mobility scooter or manual wheelchair (even with the help of a pusher). That said we were able to enjoy delicious coffee and cake in the sunny café garden.

Wonderful place for a day trip if you are in the area. The park opens at 10.30 all year round, however the cafe was closed when we were there in November. There is a large car park directly beside the cafe and main house, note that off season there is a drop box for cash, no card! We had no cash but had a chat to the head gardener who gave us his blessings to view the gardens! We will be back to pay, a Lannister always pays his debts!! The park is grea, a series of walks that take you right down to the shoreline. The unique microclimate in this part of the world allows some fairly unique plants and trees to grow...very Jurassic Park in places. For the kids there is a series of fairy houses to keep them engaged and entertained. We spent maybe 2 hours exploring before we took the head gardens recommendation for lunch, Helen's Bar up the road for toasted sambos. Pity the cafe onsite was closed, we will be back!

Derwen Garden was well worth the visit , I spent pretty all day there , starting with a hike up Knockatee to get me ready for a fabulous lunch of pan-fried scallops, and then thanks to unexpected sunshine was able to spend the rest of the day ambling through the forest and gardens and take in all the great scenery by the lakeside. Definitely recommend a visit here if your in the area
