About the garden

Fans of ferns are in for a treat at Attadale Gardens, which is home to one of the largest fern collections in Scotland. The fern-filled geodesic dome and atmospheric sunken garden are a joy to discover. But these unfurling fronds aren’t the only thing exciting green-fingered visitors.

On arrival, visitors can marvel at the lily pad-covered water gardens before taking a stroll along the old rhododendron walk. Those with kids in tow will have a blast seeking out the animal sculptures hidden among the foliage while those looking to slow the pace can unwind in the Japanese-inspired raked gravel gardens.

But what really makes Attadale Gardens special is its location in Wester Ross, Scotland. Head up to the viewpoint where you can see this mosaic of gardens set against the beautiful backdrop of neighbouring Skye. As well as the charming gardens, there’s an onsite tearoom providing homemade snacks, sweet treats and hot drinks in exchange for a donation, which you can leave in the honesty box.

One of the highlights of an 18 day road trip. A lovely, quiet garden, with marked footpaths that wind through trees, flower beds and a kitchen garden. Real variety and interest, including a Sculpture Trail. Fantastic “honesty cafe” with tasty soup, sandwiches, cakes and drinks. As a solo traveller I appreciate people smiling and saying hello as they pass… this was the friendliest place I visited, there’s something about it that makes people smile. I’d detour to return on my next trip.

What a beautiful, peaceful place to spend some time wandering and exploring! Gorgeous plants, birds everywhere, a lovely circular walk and we loved the good value DIY cafe with honesty box and even contactless payment! Highly recommended, not cheap to get in but well worth it!

Lovely gardens, with the azaleas and rhododendrons at their best. Lovely geraniums as effective ground cover. Good place even on a bad day. Small self-servicw cafe.

Very beautiful gardens in Scotland. Allow 1.5 - 2 hours to enjoy the colours, the joy and calmness of lovely gardens. And the sculptures add great excitement to all the places

Peaceful and massive place. Perfect for kids too, hunting for faries and sculptures, map and clues given hehe that was lovely. So nice to see the kids all excited. The garden had Halloween decorations too which was nice to see. Credit to the team, maintaining the ground is definitely hard work. The place is clean, the plants are tagged, signage for directions are clear and places to sit amongst the nature and savour the beauty and serenity. Toilet very clean. The garden is ideal for wheelchair users too. 1 hour is not enough! There are 3 wooden chairs facing the train track with a stunning view of the lake. Ensure to make your way at the view point within the garden. The owner is a lady with an amazing personality and very cheerful. Thank you for the wonderful experience. Keep up the good work and hope to return soon.
