About the garden

With its fragrant, clematis-lined walkways, wisteria-covered pergolas and elegant chapel garden, it’s easy to see why Abbeywood Gardens in Cheshire is a popular wedding venue. Luckily, you don’t have to be tying the knot to enjoy exploring this 45-acre estate nestled deep in the Delamere countryside.

Whether you’re into the understated beauty of cottage planting (think a peaceful pond flanked by penstemon, phlox and hellebores) or the bold silhouettes of tropical foliage (where large leafy trachycarpus palms jostle for space with dahlias and tetrapanax papyrifer), you’ll find plenty to please the eye at this beautiful patchwork of themed gardens.

If you can tear yourself away from the blossoming borders, Abbeywood Gardens also encompasses ten acres of woodland glades, including mature oaks, pines and conifers. Those interested in growing their own will find plenty of inspiration in the kitchen garden. Feeling peckish after eyeing up all that produce? Swing by The Garden Café and Restaurant for a relaxed bite to eat.

This is an excellent place to visit. Parking is free and entrance to the gardens is through the restaurant. The gardens are spread out and range from formal to prairie. There is a children's play area, a kitchen garden and nature walks through the woods. It is easily a good half day experience. The restaurant is very good and well patronised. I would suggest booking a table in advance.

Beautiful gardens, the most beautiful variety of plants and flowers. The colours were amazing. Everyone should visit. It looks an amazing wedding venue too.

Love the place, its the first time going and what a lovely place to visit. It was nice and relaxing to walk around the gardens with plenty of seats in various places to sit look at the gardens and wildlife and relax. There is a bar and restaurant that do lovely meals and is very popular, the place caters for weddings and do it very well. The last note goes to the staff who are all very helpful and friendly. Thank you

We went to a mid week wedding here and really enjoyed the day. Great meal with generous portions of everything, served efficiently and hot. Drinks and bar service very friendly and not too pricey for a wedding. The venue itself is lovely - an old mansion set in spectacular gardens.
